Duo Budget privacy policy
This policy explains how Duo Budget ("we", "us") handles your information when you use the Duo Budget app on Android or iOS, including tablets and iPad, or join the Duo Budget waitlist.
Duo Budget is a budget planning app for couples. It's free, and you can use it without an account.
The short version
- You can use Duo Budget without an account. If you do, your data stays on your device.
- If you create an account, your data is stored with Supabase in Sydney, Australia, so you and your partner can sync.
- We don't use analytics, ads, crash reporting or tracking.
- We don't sell your information.
- You can delete your account and data in the app at any time.
Who we are
Duo Budget is run by Damon Hosking, a sole trader based in Queensland, Australia.
ABN 83 774 239 896
You can contact us at support@duobudget.com.au.
What we collect
If you use the app without an account
Your budget and goals are saved only on your device. We don't receive them.
Android cloud backup of app data is turned off, so the app's data isn't included in your Android cloud backup.
If you create an account
An account is optional. It turns on sync between you and your partner. You can sign in with Google. Sign in with Apple and email sign-in are coming. If you sign in with Google, or with Apple once it's available, that company handles the sign-in. Once email sign-in is available, we'll email you a one-time 6-digit code to type in, with no password.
When you have an account, we store:
- Your sign-in email address. If you use Sign in with Apple (once available), this is the address Apple shares with us: either your real email or a Hide My Email relay address.
- Your account ID.
- Your Google profile name, if you sign in with Google.
- Your Apple user ID, if you sign in with Apple (once available). On the web and Android, we don't receive your name from Apple.
- An Apple sign-in token, if you sign in with Apple (once available). We keep it on our server and use it only to ask Apple to disconnect Duo Budget from your Apple Account when you delete your account.
- Your display name, your partner's display name and your household name.
- Your budget lines: name, amount, frequency, category, and whether it's shared or personal.
- Your goals: name, emoji, target, amount saved, plan, date and split.
- Your goal contributions: amount, date and note.
- Your pay cycles.
- Invite codes used to link you and your partner.
If you join the waitlist
We collect your email address, plus some optional and technical details. See 'The waitlist' below for the full list.
What we don't collect
- We don't use analytics, advertising, crash reporting or tracking tools.
- The app doesn't access your location, contacts, photos or camera.
- If you type your partner's email address or phone number into the invite screen, it stays on your device. We don't receive it.
Why we use your information
We use your information to:
- Create and manage your account, and let you sign in.
- Send you a one-time sign-in code by email, if you sign in with email (once available).
- Ask Apple to disconnect Duo Budget from your Apple Account when you delete your account, if you used Sign in with Apple (once available).
- Sync your budget and goals between you and your partner.
- Link you and your partner into one household using an invite code.
- Reply when you contact us, including access, correction and deletion requests.
- Email you about the Duo Budget launch, if you joined the waitlist.
- Prevent spam signups to the waitlist.
We won't use your information for anything else without asking you first.
Where your information is stored, and overseas access
If you use the app without an account, your data stays on your device and isn't stored with us.
If you have an account, your data is stored with Supabase, our database provider, in its Sydney, Australia region.
Our contract is with Supabase Pte. Ltd. in Singapore, which has a US affiliate, Supabase, Inc. Your data is stored and mainly processed in Sydney. Supabase and its service providers may access it from other countries to provide the service, mainly the United States and Singapore (and Hungary for one configuration provider). This may count as disclosing your information overseas. We're telling you so you can decide whether to create an account.
We'll send sign-in codes and waitlist emails using an email delivery provider, which we'll name here, with where it's based, before we send any email. It will receive your email address and the emails we send you.
All data sent between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit using HTTPS.
Only people working on Duo Budget can access your information. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access.
Who we share it with
We don't sell your information, and we don't share it for advertising or marketing.
We only share information with these service providers, which handle it on our behalf to run Duo Budget:
- Supabase, which hosts our database and stores your account data.
- Google, if you choose to sign in with Google. Google handles that sign-in.
- Apple, if you choose to sign in with Apple (once available). Apple handles that sign-in. When you delete your account, we send Apple your sign-in token so it can disconnect Duo Budget.
- An email delivery provider, which will send sign-in codes and waitlist emails. We'll name it here before we send any email.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
The waitlist
If you join the waitlist, we store:
- Your email address (required).
- Optionally, your pay cycle and your partner's pay cycle (weekly, fortnightly, twice a month, monthly or other).
- Your consent to receive emails (the required tick box) and the version of the consent wording you agreed to.
- The date and time you signed up.
- Where you signed up: the page, plus an optional source tag in the link (?src=).
- Your browser's user agent, which shows the type of browser and device you used.
To prevent spam signups, we also keep a short log of your email domain, the time and a scrambled version of your IP address. We delete this log after 1 day. The form also has a hidden field to catch bots. Anything entered in it is discarded and not stored.
We use your email to tell you about the Duo Budget launch, and your pay cycles to understand which pay cycles people use. We only email you if you tick the box to agree.
Your waitlist details are stored with Supabase in Sydney, Australia.
We'll send waitlist emails using the same email delivery provider we'll use for sign-in codes. We'll name this provider and where it's based here before we send any emails.
Every email we send has an unsubscribe link. If you unsubscribe, we'll stop emailing you within 5 business days.
You can ask us to delete your waitlist details at any time by emailing support@duobudget.com.au.
We delete your waitlist details 12 months after launch, or sooner if you unsubscribe or ask us to.
Children
Duo Budget is made for couples planning a budget together. It's for people aged 18 and over, and isn't intended for anyone under 18.
If you think a child has given us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Access and correction
You can ask to see or correct the information we hold about you. Email support@duobudget.com.au and we'll respond within 30 days.
How long we keep your information
We keep your account data until you delete your account. See below for how to do that, and what happens to shared information.
How to delete your account and data
In the app
Go to the Partner tab and tap 'Delete my account and data'. Your deletion takes effect immediately. If you used Sign in with Apple (once available), we also ask Apple to disconnect Duo Budget from your Apple Account. If we can't, the app shows you how to stop using your Apple Account with Duo Budget in your Apple Account settings.
Without the app
Email support@duobudget.com.au from the email address you sign in with. We'll complete your deletion and confirm it within 30 days. You can also request deletion at https://duobudget.com.au/delete-account.html.
If you use Sign in with Apple (once available) with Hide My Email, you can't email us from your relay address. Delete your account in the app instead, or email us and include the relay address shown in your Apple Account settings.
What we delete
- Your account.
- Your personal budget lines and goals.
- Your pay cycle.
- Your household membership.
- The whole household, if you're its only member.
- Your Apple sign-in token, if you used Sign in with Apple (once available).
What we keep
- Shared budget lines and goals stay with your partner if they remain in the household. Your name is removed from them.
- Goal contribution amounts stay, but they're no longer linked to you.
- Copies of your data may remain in our providers' routine backups for a short time.
- We keep your deletion request email for up to 12 months, as a record that we handled it.
